I began my professional career with Deloitte, one of the Big Four accounting firms, where I worked as a tax consultant in New York City's Financial District at Two World Financial Center (now Brookfield Place). Though I found success in public accounting, my true passion has always been in policing. At the age of six, upon a return from Disney World, my family and I were victim to a tragic drunk driving crash that took place less than a mile from our home in Hillsborough Township. This event profoundly shaped my desire to become a police officer. Policing is also in my blood—my father, cousins, and uncles have all served in law enforcement for various agencies throughout New Jersey.
After transitioning out of public accounting, I received an opportunity to join the local police department in the town where I grew up. Needless to say, the "Big Four-to-Local-PD" route was not exactly a path followed by many in the private sector. That being said, the exit conversation that I had with my supervisors and partners at Deloitte who invested their time and effort into me was (and perhaps, still is) the most stressed out experience I've endured in my life. Rather, I walked away from that conversation fortunate enough to receive incredible support from everyone at the firm, and their influence showed me what true leadership really means.
My experiences at Deloitte, in general, left me with a long-lasting understanding of what the role stewardship has on others. I remember attending a January 2012 training seminar held in Westlake, Texas with Deloitte tax professionals from across the globe. The CEO of Deloitte Tax LLP at the time was a gentleman by the name of Carl Allegretti, who led an opening presentation for all attendees. Carl immediately resonated with me, not only because his appearance and demeanor commanded respect, but he, like myself, was also a former football player throughout high school and college. His focus during the presentation was on stewardship. The message was rather straightforward: you MUST prioritize the welfare, growth and development of your own people so they may achieve personal, professional and organizational goals.
As I progressed in my law enforcement career, I began to notice a troubling trend: many of my fellow officers, despite having solid wages, benefits and pensions upon retirement, were struggling with their finances. The pressure of mounting debt and a lack of financial literacy were all-too-common themes. Too often, I saw good people working hard enough to succeed but not understanding how to leverage side hustles or manage their finances to build a stable future. Over time, these observations took me back to the aforementioned emphasis of stewardship. As LEOs, we must do what we can to guide, develop and find sustainable success for our own, including and beyond the time spent at our respective agencies. This is what inspired me to create PELTAX PROFESSIONAL SERVICES.
As a tax professional who understands and shares the same day-to-day challenges our law enforcement professionals face (overtime, healthcare costs, retirement planning), I'll work closely to build year-round relationships with clients to understand unique tax needs and financial goals. I'll develop a customized tax strategy tailored to each LEO's specific situation. As an active LEO myself, my belief in the utmost levels of transparency will keep our clients informed throughout the entire tax process.
My mission is simple: to help law enforcement professionals navigate the complexities of taxes, personal finance, and side businesses, so they can gain control over their financial futures and break free from the debt traps that may presently hold them back.
